This post brought to you by Tom’s of Maine. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Healthy Girl’s Kitchen.
I immediately thought back to that time when I was young and had a lot of trouble with painful, clogged ducts under my arms from product use that just didn’t work with my body chemistry. I told her to immediately stop using her deodorant/antiperspirant that she had been using without issue for many years and that if she didn’t see some relief within a few weeks that we could certainly visit the doctor.
Needless to say, she wasn’t too enthusiastic about not using deodorant.
And then as if God herself had intervened (in fact, I think she did), I received an e-mail from the
Tom’s of Maine company asking me if I would like to review new Long Lasting Natural Deodorant that they are producing.
HOW WEIRD IS THAT?
At first, I was thinking, “I don’t have time for this.”
You see, many times a day I receive solicitations from companies asking if I would like to try their product in exchange for a review on Healthy Girl’s Kitchen. And as all of my blog readers know, this is not something that I frequently focus on, mainly because if I’m going to write about something on HGK, it had better be something that I believe in 100%.
Plus, I usually don’t really have any need for the thing that the company wants me to blog about.
But this time it was different. We were having a little emergency! And Tom’s of Maine natural deodorant is the best-selling natural deodorant and has been for decades. They are selling a deodorant formula with new and improved scents. Their deodorants are free of aluminum, artificial fragrances and petrochemicals.
I figured what do we have to lose, and I asked Sophia if she would be interested in trying out Tom’s of Maine deodorant with me. Maybe a natural formula deodorant is the best thing for all of us long term, given how focused on health and wellness I am.
I’m very happy to report that both Sophia and I are loving our new Tom’s of Maine deodorant. Granted, neither one of us is into heavy working out right now. My workouts consist of pilates twice a week and housework. So we can’t tell you if Tom’s of Maine deodorants are effective under extreme conditions.
But I’m not looking for anything really heavy duty, so actually, I’m pretty stoked to change over to something more natural that meets my needs perfectly, and so is my daughter:
“I was very worried about trying out the new deodorant, even though I wanted the end of my armpit problems. I checked online to see what the reviews are about the deodorant, and I read some pretty discomforting things. I agreed to try it anyway, and I figured that the worst thing that could happen is I would sweat a lot, smell bad, develop an armpit rash, and have deodorant marks on my clothes. Needless to say, these things did not happen. The only people that care enough to write an online review are ones that had an unusually bad experience.
Tom’s of Maine sent us a few different scents and I mainly (MAINEly haha like Tom’s of Maine) used the lavender one. It smells really nice and lasts through the length of my day. The solid isn’t chalky or white, so it goes on smoothly and is clear.
Overall, I have not experienced anything unusual about it, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to switch deodorants. I don’t really know too much about what goes inside deodorant, but as long as it isn’t giving me glandular issues I am very pleased.”
When trying a natural personal care product for the first time it’s important to give your body time to adjust. If your body is used to a conventional product, you might need a little time to adjust to a natural formula free of chemicals and artificial ingredients. Trying the deodorant for at least 3-7 days, including testing out different scents (or unscented), can help determine the best fit for your body’s unique chemistry.
These products are a deodorant (anti-odor) not an antiperspirant (anti-sweat), thus they do not protect against wetness and do not include aluminum as an active ingredient. If you perspire a lot, you may need to choose an antiperspirant, depending on your day’s activities.
But like I said, we don’t need an antiperspirant and the, painful clogged ducts that come along with that, so Tom’s of Maine, you’ve got customers in us!
What’s your deodorant/antiperspirant story? When I posting a photo of the Tom’s products on Instagram a few days ago, it sparked a pretty lively conversation about what people use and why. I didn’t realize that this was such a big issue in people’s lives!
