For me, this Healthy Girl’s Kitchen podcast episode is going to go down in history as one of my more memorable ones. First off, I was a little bit more nervous going into it, given the epic success of the guest I was about to interview.
JD is the former executive producer of the wildly popular television series, The Biggest Loser and Extreme Weight Loss. JD became an actor at age 10, and has been working in television ever since. You may know him as the host of many game shows for children, including the hit “Fun House.”
JD is the author of the brand new book, “The Big Fat Truth, Behind the Scenes Secrets to Losing Weight and Gaining the Inner Strength to Transform Your Life.” In his new television series, also called “The Big Fat Truth,” JD uses the tools he’s amassed over two decades producing weight-loss and transformation TV, and uncovers the big fat truth: that a healthy mind is the gateway to a healthy body. The Big Fat Truth airs on Sunday nights at 8 pm on Z Living. You can catch a clip from this week’s episode (courtesy of ZLiving Network) featuring our very own Dr. Michael Greger here.
The second reason why I had more nervous energy than usual is because going into the interview, I really sensed that I had a lot to learn from JD about what it really takes to have long-term success with weight loss. You see, JD has coached thousands of participants through extreme weight loss during his reality television production career and 65% of them have lost a lot of weight and kept it off. SIXTY FIVE PERCENT. Those are numbers unheard of in the weight loss world. So I was giddy with anticipation at what I might uncover.
I’m reading JD’s new book, The Big Fat Truth, Behind-the-Scenes Secrets to Losing Weight and Gaining the Inner Strength to Transform Your Life right now, and I promise you, you will not be disappointed with what JD has to teach us. He really has become an incredibly motivating transformation coach. If you are interested in participating in my FREE online book club (on Facebook), we’re starting JD’s book on July 5, 2017, so send a request to join the group here.
Personally, I was really inspired to try the exposure therapy technique that JD talks about in the book and in this podcast episode. JD makes a helluva promise when he says, “By the time I get done with you, you’ll be able to wear a glazed-doughnut necklace (with Sprinkles!) around your neck 24 hours a day, and not feel even the slightest bit of temptation. I’m going to wake the sleeping beast within you, a beast that is immune to the tastiest of French fries and the chocolatiest of chocolate cakes. Really.”
I was like, “Hell no. That cannot be possible.” But by the time I was done talking to JD, I felt so incredible empowered (“Food is MY B!#*#, I am NOT it’s B!#*#” is my new mantra!) and I have to say, a switch went on in my brain that I don’t think I will ever turn off again. And for that, I am incredibly grateful to JD. #madlove JD!!!!!!

Awesome podcast!
Excellent conversation. I’ve been watching Big Fat Truth and am looking forward to starting this book group.
Once again, you are bringing life-changing information to us! Thank you for a very interesting interview. I have new found respect for JD Roth and his weight-loss franchise. He isn’t just about “Hollywood”- he has a sincere desire to change lives.
I really enjoyed this interview! I listened to the book last week, but this podcast helped drive home some points that I overlooked when listening to the book. Such as your point about you may not have been able to keep your weight off if you didn’t start a blog. And also, get over our fear, because that’s where success begins. Thank you for sharing this! And thank you J.D. Roth for the book and for this interview. Very motivating. I always found the Biggest Loser motivating and for the longest time, it would be what I watched when I exercised. I sure miss it!
Great podcast! Have been watching The Big Fat Truth and look forward to reading the book. Wendy I’m glad you made the point that not everyone can eat a WFPB diet in unlimited quantities and still lose weight. Many people change to a WFPB diet when they are told they can eat unlimited amounts of food; they expect weight to fly off. Then they become disillusioned because they gain weight and think they are a failure. An individualized plan with proper education regarding nutrient dense and caloric dense foods is imperative for success.
Thanks so much for informing me about the show. I watched it and some of the episodes several times. I really enjoy and look forward to new episodes.
